Document a 4-day industrial slab pour in a single film

Elan Construction was placing the slab on grade for Starfield 4/5, a 193,621 sq ft industrial building in southeast Calgary and the 4th of 5 buildings in the Starfield development.

The pour was scheduled across 4 consecutive days at a planned placement rate of 100 m³/hr. Andrew Desrosiers, Elan's Field Manager, brought us in to capture the whole sequence as one film, the building's footprint, the choreography between Elan, Dynamic Concrete, and BURNCO, and the technical detail that separates a smooth pour from a rough one.

Multi-day capture across the Elan, Dynamic Concrete, and BURNCO crews

We embedded with the pour for the full sequence. Day 1 used manual placement with a Line Dragon distribution system in the tight corner of the building. Days 2 through 4 switched to a laser-guided screed with a ride-on power trowel for finishing.

SFOC-cleared aerial captured the truck cycle, the slab progressing across the building, and the structure's footprint against the southeast Calgary industrial corridor. Ground crews documented the Line Dragon, the pump operators, the finishers, and BURNCO drivers reversing into the bay every 4 minutes.

Indoor temperature held at 10°C through sealed perimeter bulkheads and a completed roof envelope. We worked around the prime contractor's daily safety brief and stayed clear of the active pump line.

193,621 sq ft, 499 truckloads, 1 continuous narrative

The final package included a 2-minute hero film, a library of 4K stills, and an external SSHD with every select for Elan's internal use.

The film runs in Elan's recruitment outreach, on LinkedIn, and as part of how Elan tells the story of large-format industrial slab work, to investors, partners, and the trades they're hiring.

Not many contractors in southern Alberta pour 60,000 to 80,000 sq ft per day at a rate of 120 m³/hr with minimal manpower. Our approach is quite unique in this aspect.
