Jenna Kardal, Communications Advisor at CPKC, brought us in to interview Brad Greene, Mechanical Heritage Team Lead, US Army veteran and third-generation railroader, for an internal video to release on November 11, 2024.
The brief was specific. Capture Brad's military and railroading story with the gravity it deserves, document his grandfather's Northern Alberta Railway and British Columbia Railway lineage, and turn it around in 7 days for both Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the United States.
We shot at Building 7 at CPKC's Heritage Mechanical Yard. PPE current. 14:00 arrival to set up for a 15:00 interview.
The 12 ft × 12 ft map room was relit for the interview, overhead fluorescents off, soft key from camera-left, fill bounced off the wall. Brad's service uniform hung on the map drawers behind him. A 5×7 framed photo of Brad with his grandfather sat on the desk where he could reach it.
2 cameras on Brad. Lavalier audio. After the interview we moved to the Mechanical Heritage shop for B-roll among CPKC's restored heritage cars, then out to the yard for an aerial pass with the Mavic 3 Pro as a CPKC unit train rolled past the heritage row.
We delivered a 2:39 cinematic 16:9 cut for web and a shorter 1:1 cut for Instagram. CPKC's translation team supplied French and Spanish captions. We provided the English transcript.
The cinematic cut opens on Brad in the map room, holds on the framed photo of him with his grandfather, works through his Ft. Hood, Camp Humphreys, and Ft. Campbell timeline, and closes on a CPKC bumper. The video published internally on November 11, 2024.

Brad reflecting on photographs from his deployment
Remembrance Day isn't just 'A Day' if you know what I mean. How I honour my brothers and sisters in arms is coming to work every day, putting in the extra effort, working together as a team, because that is a hallmark of military service.
